In the heart of Washington Heights, Usnavi owns a vibrant bodega, a hub of life and community where he works tirelessly alongside his quick-witted cousin, Sonny. Though business is tough, Usnavi dreams of a fresh start in the Dominican Republic, the land of his parents' roots, as he navigates the challenges of his everyday life.

Usnavi and Sonny share a deep bond with the beloved Abuela Claudia, a warm and loving matriarch who’s cherished by all. Known for her joyful spirit and love of the simple things—like feeding the birds—Abuela is the heartbeat of Washington Heights, offering wisdom and comfort to everyone she meets.

Graffiti Pete and Graffiti Petra are the mischievous duo who add a splash of color—and trouble—to the neighborhood. As friends of Sonny, they’re always up to something entrepreneurial, whether it’s selling t-shirts, fireworks, or using their spray cans to leave their signature tag on the streets of the Heights. They may drive Usnavi crazy, but they bring their own kind of energy to the vibrant, ever-changing neighborhood.
And then there’s Piragua Girl, the refreshing spirit of the neighborhood. She’s always seen pushing her cart, selling shaved ice to cool the heat that rises in the summer months. A fixture in the Heights, Piragua Girl brings much-needed relief to the locals and is a welcome face alongside Usnavi and his bodega.
